The Great Parks of Collin County & My Kids Favorites!!!!

As a Realtor in Collin County, TX, I meet a lot of amazing families and I enjoy talking to them about the great parks and outdoors that this amazing county has to offer. Outside of Collin county’s great school system, safe neighborhoods, and an abundance of recreational opportunities there is also a large amount of outdoor activities. One of the standout features of this region are its beautiful parks, offering children and families a chance to connect with nature, play, and create cherished memories. In this blog, I (and my kids opinions) will take you on a journey through some of the best parks for kids in Collin County; where the little ones can run, jump, and explore to their hearts' content, as well as, some adult activities (anyone like outdoor exercise areas).

1. Myers Park and Event Center

Nestled in the heart of McKinney, Myers Park and Event Center is a sprawling 158-acre oasis that's perfect for kids of all ages. The park offers a wide range of amenities, including playgrounds, hiking trails, and even a fishing pond.

2. Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve

Plano's Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve is an expansive green space that covers over 800 acres, making it one of the largest parks in North Texas. The park also has access to Go Ape, for an additional fee, which has a zip-line and treetop adventure (great for big kids, adults and family memories). There are miles of paved and unpaved trails for biking, walking, or jogging, providing ample opportunities for exploration. Additionally, the park boasts a serene lake where families can enjoy picnics and bird watching. This is a family favorite because we are able to hike amongst the trees but have the ability to be close to the city amenities we enjoy (coffee in Waters Creek anyone?).

Frisco's Gabe Nesbitt Community Park is a popular destination for families seeking a day of fun in the sun. The park features an impressive playground with multiple structures for kids of all ages, including toddlers. Looking to have a picnic? The shaded Wagon Wheel Park in Coppell is for you. This park provides a charming experience and is what we would consider a hidden gem. It offers a small, cozy playground with a rustic, old-western feel. Kids can enjoy the imaginative play structures and explore the nearby hiking trails, giving them a sense of adventure while staying close to nature.

5. Shawnee Park & Disc Golf

In Plano, Shawnee Park offers a unique blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The park features a large pond with ducks, geese, and turtles, making it a fascinating spot for children interested in wildlife. The playground is creatively designed to resemble a fort, providing endless entertainment for kids. There are also open spaces for sports and picnicking, ensuring a well-rounded day of fun.
